OCL Sneak Peak Day 2!

Aren’t Sneak Peaks FUN?!  Have you seen anything that has tickled your fancy?  Today I am so excited to share with you another set I illustrated…a very special set inspired by my daughter, Molly.  When she was born she weighed less than 6 lbs and she wore preemie clothes for a short period of time.  My husband (who majored in Chemical Engineering in college) and I used to call her our little Molly-cule which quickly morphed into our little Molla-cutie.

The image here is from the new crafty single set called none other than Molla-Cutie!  :)  And needless to say, I will be using this set along with Love Potion (a coordinating full set) a lot I’m sure!

I added Ranger glossy accents to the goggles and test tubes (wish it showed up in the pic!).  OCL crafty sparkles to some of the hearts.  See the black cardstock?  That’s actually Chalkboard Cardstock..how cool is that?  The molecule image is stamped with white ink and it looks like chalk (smudges like chalk too..haha!)

Make sure to leave a comment here and visit all the DT on the links below for a chance to win one of 4 prizes!  For more info visit the OCL Blog!  Good Luck and Thanks for stopping by!!

OCL Sneak Peak Day 1

Time again for Our Craft Lounge Sneak Peaks and I couldn’t be more excited!   Our Craft Lounge is sneaking their 2012 Valentine Release with a Blog Hop today and tomorrow…and you know what that means right?  Chances to WIN the new sets!   I’ll have all the deets on that but first let me show you what I’m sneaking today.  It’s a crafty single set I illustrated called Spilling Over!

I’m not sure if it was the break from all things Holiday or not but I had a lot of fun making this card. First of all, I love the size of this balloon…and i loved stamping it in rubbah. And check out these clouds!

I used my silhouette to cut them out but they are covered in modpodge and sparkly fluff!  Ooo they look (& feel) fun IRL!

Now, this mini set is called “spilling over” because, on the stamp, hearts are actually spilling out of the balloon basket..but that didn’t work for me & my fluff clouds…so I cut them off of the main image when I cut out the balloon to pop up on dimensionals.

I *did* use some of those spilling hearts on the banner though. ;)  And some images from another set…a full coordinating set of mine called Love in the Air!  Lots of fun images in that baby!

Be sure to check out everyone on the list below & remember to comment comment COMMENT for a chance to WIN!  Win what you say?  Leave a comment & you have a chance to win one of 4 prize bundles (1 full set and 1 single)!   All comments left on Thursday and Friday will be counted towards the candy so make sure to leave a comment at every blog you visit on this hop…and facebook too!  This runs for 2 days and ends on Friday, December 16th at Midnight (PST).  Winners will be announced on the OCL Blog and OCL Facebook Page by Monday!   Now get to it!! (and Good Luck!)

Wrapped Yarn Wreath

Say that 5 times fast! (wrapped yarn wreath wrapped yarn wreath wrapped yarn wreath…I can’t do it…not even when I’m typing it!)

So whaddya think?

Of my wrapped yarn wreath?

I made this for my niece this past summer and have been sitting on it (not literally) for the past few months waiting to give it to her.

We were looking through a Better Homes & Gardens holiday craft magazine over the summer and she saw a wreath very similar to this one and commented on how she would love it.

Tasia (my niece): “But not in white b/c I have a white door”.  Me (to myself) : “NOTED”

Believe it or not (hubby will completely disagree with this)…when people talk I *do* (most of the time) listen.

Off to Hobby Lobby I went shopping for yarn and a straw wreath.  I then sat right down in my comfiest chair (ok..it wasn’t THE comfiest chair…but it was good enough) and watched tv while mindlessly wrapping yarn around the wreath base.  It is slightly time consuming..but completely mindless.

And you gotta love it when you can do something mindless every now and again.

Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed making this.  I think mostly b/c I was so excited to make it FOR HER.  Once I completed my red knobby wreath…I rolled some white & green felt flowers and hot glued jingle bells in the centers.  Done?  Not quite.  It still needed *something* so I added the fake sugar berries. (I’m all about jingle bells and berries this holiday.  Hmm…that sounds like an ABC Holiday special doesn’t it?  (keepin’ it clean folks!)  ”Jingle Bells and Berries”  I think James Van Der Beek or Mario Lopez would be in it.  Although if it were *my* screenplay I would demand Leonardo DiCaprio.  I think he’d pass on it based on the name alone.)  lol

Have a great day!

Thanksgiving Place Cards (kids)

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  And for those of you that were so inclined…a fruitful Black Friday and Cyber Monday!

My whole family travelled to Boston to celebrate the holiday with my aunt, uncle & cousins this year and it was so.much.FUN!  Great food…great company…what could be better?

Maybe an appearance by our elf on a shelf, Jack?  Oh yea!

Do any of you have your own elf on a shelf?  I have to admit…hubby and I are *almost* as excited as the girls for his arrival each year!  :)

For Thanksgiving, my aunt asked me if the girls could make the place cards for the table…”nothing fancy”.

I knew I really needed this to be something simple and fun…so I downloaded a turkey file for my silhouette SD and cut out 16 brown turkey bodies and about 100 random colored “feathers”.  Thanksgiving day the girls and I watched the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade while we glued these together.  Meg did most of the work..Molly pretty much gave up after her 8 bodies had feathers.  Those googly eyes, beaks and feathers were tough to glue on with their glue sticks!  lol!  But we did it! I had added ranger glossy accents to all the feet (beforehand) and we used red stickles for the wobbly turkey thing near the beak. ;)  Meg wrote out all the names and decorated each with a heart.  The turkey “stands” are glitterized foam balls with one end cut off and a slit down the center for the turkey.   I’m looking at this picture and see that the daddy turkey is missing a foot!  D’OH!  Regardless of the missing foot…we all had a great time!

Thanks for stopping by!

Monogrammed Pumpkin

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you all have a wonderful day!  I’m incredibly thankful for so many things in my life.  Not the least of which are a wonderful family and knock your socks off fabulous friends!

I realize the holiday season is officially in full swing and everyone’s focus will be (and has been) turning to wintery/Christmasy things…  but I wanted to show you a pumpkin I monogrammed and glittered up as a thank you gift to my aunt and uncle for hosting us this Thanksgiving!

Whaddya think?  It’s a foam pumpkin that I purchased from Michaels a year ago.  I knew I wanted to do *something* with it and when we were invited to my Aunt’s for Thanksgiving that pumpkin was sitting on my craft table nudging me to use it.  I painted the “R” with black acrylic paint and thought…this pumpkin needs some BLING!  So I grabbed some OCL 24K Gold crafty sparkles (which I’ve had for a while and have never used) and glittered away!  I “painted” the stem with modpodge and dumped the glitter on and was instantly in love!  Added a glittery leaf (that I re-glittered with the 24K gold sparkles) and some berry bling.  Then I used a glue pen to outline the monogram…sprinkling glitter along the way.

I love glitterizing things…just sayin’.  I recently finished up party invites with glitter all over them too.  And even though I try to contain the glitterfying to my studio…glitter ends up all OVER my house!  I love it! I especially love it when I take my sick child to the drs (I don’t love *that*) and she has bits of glitter on her forehead and eye lids..lol.  Or when my husband comes home from work and I see  hints of  glitter on his shirt!  ahahahaha!    Little things make me so happy! :)

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

And if you are partaking in the black Friday madness tomorrow GOOD LUCK!

Speaking of BLACK FRIDAY…OCL is having a BLACK FRIDAY event going on right now!   25% off storewide!  Yowza!  Go check out the blog to find all the deets!

What’s Cookin?: Penuche

penuchepic

Well hellllo!  I’m back from my blogging hiatus..or am I?  Either way, I have a family holiday recipe to share with ya!   It’s called Penuche.  Ever hear of it?  It’s a delicious sugary concoction made with white and brown sugar and not much else.  I grew up not being a fan of this stuff..I was more a chocolate girl (still am)…but I have such wonderful memories wrapped up in this sweetness.  I have distinct memories of my dad making this while my mom and I broke up bread for the thanksgiving stuffing.  Now I think this stuff is DA BOMB.  Soooo sweet.

Brown Sugary Sweet.

I don’t know how you can resist it..I really don’t.  I love licking the spoon when all is said and done and don’t even mind the burn I give myself on the roof of my mouth b/c it’s still scorching hot!

So without further ado here is the recipe for penuche (it is not much for looks…but trust me that the taste is all that matters here)!

Ingredients:
2 cups light brown sugar, packed
1 cup white sugar
¾ cup milk or cream
2 tbsp light corn syrup
3 tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

In medium saucepan, bring sugars, cream and corn syrup to a boil (stirring OFTEN) and cook to soft ball stage (one drop in ice water will form a soft, pliable ball).

(I never drop it in ice water and always use a candy thermometer.)

Add butter & vanilla and beat till creamy and thick.

Beat in the nuts if you’re using ‘em. (I always use chopped walnuts)

Pour into a buttered 8-inch square dish.

Cool well and cut into 1 to 1-1/2-inch squares.

That’s it…how easy is that?

I haven’t cut mine up yet…it’s safe & secure in my fridge waiting for Thanksgiving…and it’s demise!

Thanks for stopping by my new blog and for checking out this recipe!  Hope to see you around here often!  And if you end up making some Penuche this holiday season let me know!

New Blog!

Hey there!  After months of non-blogging and irritation with blogger I have officially made the switch to WordPress!  I pulled over as much as I could from my blogger site…but was unable to snatch all of my comments. :(  BUMMER.  If anyone knows how I can transfer them over please share!  I’m sure I’ll have other tweaks to make..but I really just want to get this up and running.

So make sure to update your readers and such to this site.  I have (inadvertently) disabled my www.dbdoodle.com domain from my blogger account.  I’m trying to direct that away from blogger and over here.  I think I’m just waiting for that change to take place at this point.   lol

Hoping to get back to more frequent blogging soon.  I definitely have lots of stuff to share!

Thanks for stopping by!  Let me know what you think!

Sneaking Proud Peacock!

Here we are at day #2 of the OCL sneak peaks!
Whaddya think?  Anything catch your eye?
Today I’m showing you a sneak of a set I illustrated called Proud Peacock!
I have this love/hate relationship with birds.
I love them on paper.  I love them from a distance.  I love them when they are not flying.
Other than that…I pretty much hate them.  Ok ok hate is a strong word.  They just make me nervous.  It’s the whole aerial advantage thing.
I don’t know if peacocks can fly…can they?
They are pretty just the same…and here is my pretty pink peacock…
I colored her with copics and then used Sparkly Fluff on her lower body and wing…purple sparkly fluff on parts of the feathers..Sugar sparkles and ranger glossy accents.
This girl is Blinged Out!
Make sure to leave a comment to win on every blog you hop to!  Go to the OCL Blog for all the deets!
ETA:  Thanks for all of your well wishes yesterday..I will pass them on to Beth & Todd!  xoxo

Sneaking Scaredy Cat!

**This post was written 8/23/11 – prior to a severe parasailing accident that involved our best friends.  Many of my facebook friends already are aware of this.   This event has been emotionally draining on all of us and I’m asking all of my readers to keep them in your prayers.
**************************************************************
Yay!  It’s my favorite time of year..time for OCL sneak peaks!  And today I’m sneaking an image of mine called “scaredy cat”.  This is available as a “crafty cling single” through OCL and their retailers.
I colored miss scaredy cat with copics and threw some 24k gold crafty sparkles on her collar and hat buckle.  The hanging spiders are from my Spook-tacular set and they are covered in eyeliner black sparkly fluff.  I love fuzzy black sparkly spiders as long as they are not real! ;)
I made the coffin using my silhouette…have I mentioned how much I love that machine?
BOO!
Did I scare ya?
I added the loose candy corn just for the photo…I didn’t have a cute little bag to put it in.
This would be the perfect size for a miniature candy shaped like a skeleton.
Or..candy corn would work just fine too!
(I ended up eating these for breakfast!)
Don’t judge me!
Make sure to check out what everyone is sneaking..there are a lot of cute images being released!  You can find all the deets on the OCL BlogPssst:  There is candy to be given away
(and I’m not talkin’ ’bout the “corn”!)   :)
